Amazing Pizza facts!

So, it is no doubt that Pizzas are a hot favourite among today’s youngsters! No birthday party is complete without those pizza boxes in the house, or if you have friends like me, all you need on a birthday is a pizza and a beer! While my dad argues that it’s just bread and meat, I beg to differ! It’s so much more than that! Its lie your foodgasm! It is hot cheesy Mozarella, topped with juicy meat and fresh jalapenos and olives, baked to perfection! I am sure all will agree!

We Indians have a habit of domesticating everything! From chowmein to momos, we have seen an Indian variety to it all, so how can pizza be left behind? The amazing pizza pasta sauce recipe in the market has taught home-makers how to make affordable and healthy pizza at home.

But, Pizza is also famous for many other things! Not a clue? Read along:

•    The word “Pizza” first came forward in 997 AD:

The term appeared in a Latin text from the southern Italian town of Gaeta in 997 AD. The text said that a tenant of a certain property was supposed to give the bishop of Gaeta “duodecim pizze,” or twelve pizzas, every Christmas day, and another twelve on Easter Sunday.

•    The most expensive pizza is for $12000:

A creation of Chef Viola, Pizza Louis XIII (pizza) cost a whopping $12000 dollars. If you ever order it, the preparation takes place at your home, under the guidance of a sommelier, a sous chef, and chef Viola himself. Toppings for the pizza include three types of caviar, red prawns, Mediterranean lobster, and sea cicada.

•    In 2011, Pizza was considered a vegetable by the government:

In 2011, a serving of pizza containing at least two tablespoons of tomato sauce actually met those vegetable requirements.

Italian cuisine is no doubt one of the most popular cuisines in India. Along with the pizzas and pastas, the mayonnaise sauce recipe too has caught the fancy of many like me!

Surprising Benefits of Tomato Ketchup!

We are never grown up enough to stop liking and licking tomato ketchup. As a child I remember I used to eat anything if I had tomato ketchup with it. Just about anything! Even rice. Crazy as it may sound; I still love ketchup like most us and I love to lick it off the plate when no one is seeing! And I have no shame in admitting that I do not like ketchup pouches served with various food items as condiments, to be wasted. Yes, I keep them with me if I have extra. But who knew our all-time favorite ketchup also beneficial to our body? Here’s a list of the benefits of ketchup, may you never stop liking it!

It is low in calories

In comparison to other condiments like that of mayo, tomato sauce has drastically lesser in calories. Mixing a spoonful or two to your dish can actually help you cut down your calorie intake!  If instead of two spoons of mayo you have two spoons of ketchup, you would save 1,190 calories weekly!

It is low in fats

What can be more satisfying than knowing what to love to eat is low in fat? Well tomato ketchup is! Indian tomato sauce contains almost zero fat, with less than 0.1 gram in each 1-tablespoon. This means it does not have any saturate fat which is harmful and often leads to cardiovascular issues and other health issues.  A tablespoon of mayonnaise contains 11 grams of fat which makes ketchup a better condiment option.

It is high in lycopene

I came to know that Lycopene is an ingredient in ketchup which makes it a healthy option over any available sauces. It is an anti-oxidant which is there in plenty in tomato sauce. It helps you fight the risk of stomach, prostrate, cervical, and lung cancers. It also keeps cholesterol level under check and generates the healthy cholesterols in the body. So a thumbs up to the ketchup suppliers of India; may we always have tomato ketchups in abundance!

The word “ketchup” sure does fill our minds with images of a bottles and jars containing red colored thick and glossy condiment made from tomatoes. Well, we have been eating indian tomato sauce and ketchups since forever. But a ketchup doesn’t necessarily have to start with and end at tomatoes. You’ll be amazed to know that there is an entire world beyond the conventional tomatoes.

Ketchup suppliers in india have a number of ketchups and sauces in their kitty made out of different fruits and flavors. And you can make your own at home as well. So let’s take a break from tomatoes and look at some of the fruit recipes

Cremica - Strawberry Syrup-horz

•Strawberry sauce: The strawberry recipe is made from the mixture of strawberry and sugar. Strawberry is stirred with the sugar unless it gets coated completely. This mixture then is heated for 5 minutes. Lemon juice is added to it and the mixture is stirred. Transfer the contents into a jar containing tightening lid and refrigerate it for three weeks. Remember to use very ripe strawberries if you want a juicy ketchup.

•Mixed berry sauce recipe: Do you like the sight of yummy sauce spread over cheesecakes and vanilla ice creams, making it even more delightful? Well you can make this delight by using a combination of whatever berries you can think of- strawberries, blueberries, blackberries and red raspberries.

•Caramel butter sauce recipe: The caramel sauce is one tempting recipe made out of sugar, butter and whipping cream. The only point of concern while making this recipe is that making caramel is a fast process. If you don’t work fast on mixing butter and cream, the sugar will burn.

•Creamy walnut recipe: The main ingredients of this recipe are walnuts, butter and olive oil. The nuts are first grinded. Butter and olive oil are added until a paste forms out of it. People who love cheese can also add a lot of cheese at this stage. Then the cream is added and blended until a smooth mixture is ready.

No wonder we have a number of sauces to choose from- from sweet to spicy! But don’t worry tomatoes, indian tomato sauce has no replacement and we will still need you while having paranthas and pakodas!

The Saucy Breakfast

A breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It literally breaks the fast, caused after having a long gap from the last night’s dinner (9-10 hours is really long!) and that is where it derives its name from. Breakfast acts as a fuel to the body, helping us kick start our day, the same way a petrol works for a car. It gives us energy to work for the entire day and keeps us satisfied till lunch. Apart from providing us with energy, breakfast foods are good sources of important nutrients such as calcium, iron and B vitamins as well as protein and fiber. The body needs these essential nutrients and research shows that if these are missed at breakfast, they are less likely to be compensated for later in the day. A heavy and healthy breakfast is very important for the body, for people working physically as well as mentally.

The Indian tomato sauce is one of the most important ingredients of a breakfast because it acts as a companion to a wide range of food items. From desi- paranthas to cutlets and from omelets to oats, the Indian tomato sauce works wonderfully in enhancing the deliciousness of the food. Although tomato sauces are easily available in the market today, it is fresher, more aromatic and definitely more satisfying if made at home. The main reason behind it is the fresh flavor of tomatoes, capsicum, onions and garlic, tinged with herbs and spices. People also customize this Indian tomato sauce recipe according to their own choice of set of spices.

When it comes to breakfast, the options are endless. Although the list of a healthy breakfast goes on and on, some of the easy and healthy breakfast recipes in India include pasta, omelets, dosa, poha, idli and sandwiches. These breakfasts can be easily accompanied with the Indian tomato sauce. It offers versatility to the taste as well as a number of health benefits. A cup of tomato sauce contains a quarter of a recommended daily intake of vitamin A and fulfills half of our daily need for vitamin C. Tomatoes are also naturally rich in minerals and fibers. Compared with cream-based sauces that contain many times as many calories per cup, tomato sauce is a lean and nutritious option.

Simple Recipes with Left-Over Bread

What do you do when you have leftover bread in your freezer? I am sure this is a familiar situation for everyone. As for me I never seem to consume the entire loaf of bread. There WILL be a few left, always! I usually find ways to make something interesting out of those left over loafs and eat it right away. At times I make people eat them as well! So far, all my experiments have gone pretty well, and now I secretly wish for some bread leftovers every time I get a new loaf. Here are two of my all-time favourite preparations, you can try them too!

Make a bread salad!

Who knew you could use up the hardened ends of leftover bread? All you have to do is to toast the bread cubes for about 15 minutes till they are crunchy, but not completely toasted. The second important thing you need after bread in this salad is a red round tomato, followed by a salad dressing. India now has some fabulous option of dressings, go for anyone or use the one you have at home. Add fresh vegetables if you have any or you can just mix the above mentioned ingredients and treat yourself to a simple but tasty bread salad! If you add a bit of butter in the whole thing you will be surprised by the flavour it can add up to!

Bread and mayo rolls

Breads with mayonnaise sauce

Fry the bread you are left with, in a little bit of butter. Any oil would do, but butter would lend a better taste. Remove the bread sides and fry it till it’s still soft. Got any salami in your freezer? Well, keep it on the brad roll, before wrapping it up, add a generous amount of mayonnaise sauce in it and then roll it up! The mayo gives a heavenly taste mixed with the salami, and it helps keep your bread roll stick together. Bite on it, and have a taste of wonder!
